The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
